A.S. Roma, a major Italian soccer club recently announced that it had joined the Sorare platform. The platform allows the creation of collectible cards secured using the blockchain. Sorare, which is back by ConsenSys has created a blockchain fantasy soccer game.
Sorare offers its users limited edition digital collectible items. These items are secured using the blockchain and their owners can trade, own, and use them in the fantasy soccer game. The platform currently has 35 licensing deals with 35 soccer clubs. It has deals with Atletico Madrid and West Ham United. Other clubs that have signed deals with the platform are FC Nante, LOSC Lille, Valencia FC, and Schalke 04.
Still in Infancy
The platform is still in its infancy. A recent report reveals that it only has 350 active users and around 800 players. As such, it is still in the early days and there is a lot of room for growth. The Sorare fantasy football game comprises of teams of five blockchain cards. Gamers and fans are rewarded based on the real-life performances of the players in real games. Besides that, they are given bonus points depending on how rare a blockchain card is as well as the characteristics of the card.
The platform is powered by Loom, the Ethereum sidechain. The collectible cards are secured using the ERC721 non-fungible Ethereum token standard. In 2019, ConsenSys took part in a €500,000 seed-funding round. In October 2019, the platform joined the Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Lab Program.

A.S. Roma has another partnership with Socios.com, a fan engagement platform. The platform focuses on creating blockchain-powered fan tokens. Other clubs that have a deal with Socios are Atletico Madrid and West Ham United. With the tokens, fans can vote on certain issues as well as the ability to access exclusive merchandise.
Fantastec is another blockchain company that created SWAP, a blockchain game. The firm has inked deals with Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund. Additionally, Animoca Brands unit called Stryking is working on a blockchain collectibles platform with FC Bayern Munich.
